Taken to the cleaners! This was my first visit to Randy automotive center for my son’s car that was stalling at idle. Frankly, I was blown away by the quote I received and the laundry list of items to replaced. I was quoted a range for the diagnostic fee and of course it came in at the maximum fee of $275.00 (including new customer discount). The mechanic claimed it was a bad throttle body and the estimated cost was $1,600. It's a $600 part at the high end and an hour to install. A very simple fix but they were wrong! I also received a laundry list of items to perform and most of it was not necessary such as: - Cabin filter – replaced less than a month ago - Windshield wipers – new in the spring - Transmission service – not due for service - Serpentine belt - -done approx a year ago - four wheel alignment – done last month - brake system service – done when the brakes were replaced earlier this spring - coolant system – probably time and no debate - power steering service – probably time and no debate - front and rear shocks/struts – original and nothing wrong Fortunately, I worked as a mechanic all through school and I'm not easily taken. Clearly, I have lost all faith and trust in Randy’s after seeing their quote and will not be back! BTW... the car was repaired by another shop and it was not the throttle body but a simple sensor for a total of $279.00 including the diagnostic charges. Response to Randy's Automotive Service Your question: Can you please contact us with the repair the other shop made? I would prefer to keep the other shop out of these concerns but the part that was replaced follows: 07k906433b Crank position sensor $136.00 Plus Labor/Diagnostic charge of $130.00 plus tax and Environment charge for a total of $279.94. Regarding the other recommendations, talk to your customer before recommending unnecessary work. If I agreed to everything, it would have costs thousands in unnecessary repairs.
Can you please contact us with the repair the other shop made? We want to provide an accurate diagnosis and would like to review our diagnostic procedure. Most of our recommendations on our Inspection were based on mileage. Since we have never seen your vehicle before we can only go off of mileage.
