I am a single middle-aged school teacher. I was on my way to school to pick up the essential items from my classroom when my car started sputtering and the check engine light was flashing. I’m quarantining near Medfield, to help family and not familiar with the surroundings so I pulled into the closest garage, which was Randy’s. Being In the midst of a global pandemic, I was grateful something was open and for the friendly welcome I received. They gave me a loaner car which I greatly appreciated and even let me take my dog in it who was with me. When they called to tell me it was a cylinder misfire and I needed to replace the coil and spark plug I was relieved, until they told me the price. For the coil, plug, an oil change and a system cleaner, they charged me $1,064.98. I knew this felt off as I drained my savings and my checking account. I took my car to get new tires at my usual garage in Medford and out of curiosity asked for a quote for the exact same repair, The quote was $464.00. I asked a few other places and the highest quote was $650. I can’t believe a small-town business would take advantage of me like this ever, but especially not in this current crisis. Tow your car to Maine if you have to, but I’d try anywhere besides Randy’s first.
Thank you for your review. We did not just replace your coil. We diagnosed why your car wasn’t running right which was the coil. We then continued the testing to find what caused the coil to fail which was worn spark plugs. We replaced the one coil that failed and the worn spark plugs on all the cylinders to protect the other coils from failing.
