I don't normally leave reviews but had such a negative experience here that I feel obligated to. Randy's quoted me $5,000 for repairs to my 2015 Honda CR-V, and suggested that with the high cost of repairs, I consider selling it, and financing a new car with them instead. Mind you - the car is less than 8 years old with 119,000 miles on it. Limiting only to what they deemed critical repairs to the braking system (all new calipers, rotors, brake pads, brake fluid flush, etc.), their quote still came out to over $3,000. Never have I ever heard of a Honda brake repair job costing this much money. When delivering the quote for service, Stephanie asked me who else she should send the work authorization to. I am 29 years old, the car is in my name, and I never indicated that another person would be paying for the services. I am so disappointed in both the price gouging and lack of respect. Despite being under a time crunch, I decided to take it to another shop for a second opinion. I was advised by Randy's that "the vehicle is unsafe and should be towed" and was made to sign a release when I picked it up. Randy's also charged me $140 for the quote. I brought the vehicle to a very trusted shop in Needham and explained my situation to them. The part that has me most upset: the next shop informed me the car is entirely road safe, the brakes are still functioning (may need to replace the rear set in 10,000 miles), and they cleaned the rotors for me. They charged $130 for the entire service, which also included new windshield wipers and an inspection sticker. All this is to say, I would not recommend Randy's under any circumstances.
We did a bad job communicating our findings to you. I pulled up the technician notes and pictures they took of your brakes which we sent to you. It is clear the brake calipers are not working properly and that caused the damage to the rotors. Resurfacing the rotors will stop the grinding noise but will not get the brakes operating at 100%. Only replacing the calipers and damaged brake parts will return the brake system to 100%. Part of the reason the quote was so high was because all the brake parts on both axles need to be replaced. Also included in the quote, which we sent you the link so you could view every line item, was maintenance items that were overdue and somethings we saw that were coming up for service soon. We did this so you’d have the entire picture on your car. We did not charge for the quote we charge for a full brake system diagnosis. I am very confused about us offering to sell you a car; we don’t sell cars. The reason Stephany asked if there was someone else, she should talk to was because when you dropped off your car you checked with someone before authorizing the full brake system diagnosis. We provide pictures and the digital quote so we can be transparent in our findings. As professionals we only follow proper manufacture repair procedures because we take our job very seriously. Our recommendation was straight from Honda. There are many ways to cut corners and save money, but we don’t feel that is in the best interest of our clients and their safety. We had you sign a waiver because you were taking the car in a snowstorm while it was missing a windshield wiper, the brake system not working properly so it would take longer to stop, and your tires were at the minimum legal limit and wouldn’t provide you with proper traction.
